For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? - 1Pe 4:17

Why do the vast majority of Christians close their eyes to this, and say and do ugly things against other Christians that try to wake them up to this?

Unsaved people are always telling us this but we jusp keep on ignoring them.

How can we expect them to hear us when they see us ignoring the scriptures as well?

Personally...I am ashamed for Christians like that.

Hi Joseph,

Excellent Post!

I think that there is much to be said about the worldliness of much of the Church today.

I look at it in a few ways.

Christianity is a progression in part it starts by acknowleging God the Father then acknowledging the Cross of Jesus then acknowledging the Resurrection of Jesus then acknowledging the work of the Holy Spirit (Pentecost) etc.

Christians are in various stages of this progression and if you talk to someone about making Godly changes in their own personal lifestyle and they really havent acknowledged the Resurrection of Jesus, His Presence and the Presence and work of the Holy Spirit then they are Not going to receive it at least not right away maybe later on they might remember it and receive it but Christians that are still in the stage of living for the Self are not about to Deny Self and Live for God until they discover that God is the Most Amazing, Awesome, Loving, Person in the Entire Universe and then they will let nothing get in the way of a relationship between them and God.

Second even though we might find another persons walk to be slower than what we think our pace is they are still a Christian Bought by the same Blood that Jesus shed for us on the cross and Jesus is not ashamed to call them Brethren so we need to Rejoice and be not ashamed of our fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord.

God meets us where we are and works with us where we are so our Obligation and Duty as Christian is to be an Encourager and a Builder up of the fellow Saints and not a discourager. Much building up can be accomplished by looking to Jesus and not looking at our faults and the faults and shortcomings of others. In other words it better to look to and Praise Jesus then to look to people.

What are your thoughts?

God Bless You,

David

AMEN!!
How often I have BLUSHED at unrebuked sin in the church, especially when the sin is pointed out by the world.

Of course when you try to point out, however gently, sin within the house, YOU catch the condemnation for being critical and judgemental until such times as the situation blows up, and the church is held up to ridicule. Then everyone proclaims to be "SHOCKED...SHOCKED to find GAMBLING going on here!!"

(For the unwashed, that is a referrence to "Casablanca")

Don't forget "divisive" ...blind leaders of the blind ...blind leaders of the blind.

Disclaimer

"No, I do not claim to be a prophet. And, I am not having a persecution complex. Neither am I in emotional need of feeling persecuted. But, I have noticed one thing which I do have in common with the prophets, and apostles, and early Christians.

Throughout history God's true witnesses have been almost universally hated by all, with only a small percentage of the people recognizing their words as truly mirroring God's will.

Those hating his words were in fact hating the will of God, and thus God Himself. True witnesses were almost universally spoken of by the people, with minor exceptions, as false prophets & liars. And, the general population considered their words akin to 'hate speech' with a complete lack of godly 'love'." (cf. Heb. 11:32-37)

I am constantly aware that I might myself be in error, but until I find scripture which voids my findings, I have no option but to speak God's word as I see it.

The big difference between myself and those who disagree with me on the scriptures is this: "I am desirous of searching the scriptures out to see if I am wrong, while all they want to do is call me names." "

That alone should give people a starting clue...now...instead of combing through a list of ad hominums to find the names you want to call me...read Acts 17:11...and follow through.
